Wayne Allen Fylling, 60, Jamestown, ND died peacefully at his home Sunday September 16th , 2012 ending a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.

Wayne was born July 23, 1952 to Knute Fylling and Eletha (Evjen) Fylling at Turtle Lake, ND. He was raised on a farm near Turtle Lake, where he attended school and graduated in 1971. During his high school years he enjoyed participating in Track and Field and qualified for the state competition his senior year. Upon graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War on the USS Sacramento. After being honorably discharged in 1975 he returned home to attend college at NDSCS in Wahpeton and earned an Associates degree in Auto Mechanics.

He married Beth (Hiltner) Fylling on July 15th , 1978 at St. Olaf Lutheran's Church in Turtle Lake. They made their home in Jamestown where they raised their family. In 1978 he enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard (NDANG) where he soon took full position as a surface maintenance repairman. He was later promoted to shop supervisor of the field maintenance shops in Jamestown and Valley City.

In 2003 Wayne was called upon to serve his country once again during Operation Iraqi Freedom; He was stationed in Iraq with the 957 Engineer Company through May 2004. He had a passion for serving his country and was dedicated to advancing his military career through continued education. In 2007 he retired from the NDAND as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. After he retired from the National Guard he took a position driving bus for the James River Senior Citizen Center, he loved working with everyone there and took pride in helping his passengers.

He enjoyed being an active member of the community and was involved in the James River Rural Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief until his health required him to step down, His other community involvements included serving as post commander for the VFW, board member of the All Vets Club, church council member at Atonement Lutheran Church, president of the Hockey Boosters, a member of the American Legion. He also shared his enthusiasm for boxing by helping to get a Golden Gloves boxing program started in Jamestown.

Wayne enjoyed playing golf, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Beth, Jamestown, ND; 2 sons, Brant (Michelle) Fylling, Austin, TX; Matthew (Miranda) Fylling, Minot, ND; 3 grand children, Gavin, Sophia and Aubrey; 2 brothers, Leon (Sharon) Fylling, Russo, ND; Robert (Colleen) Fylling, Minot, ND; 2 sisters, Beverly (Bob) Wendt, Minot, ND, and Gerry Makeef, Mercer, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 infant brother, Kenneth and 1 sister, Renee.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday September 20, 2012 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Scott Block, officiating.

The interment will be at Noon Friday September 21, 2012 at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND, with Chaplain David Johnson, officiating.
