Waldemar Diegel, 86, Wishek, ND, died Friday night December 11, 2009 at the Wishek Hospital in Wishek, ND.
Waldemar was born March 22, 1923 at Burnstad, ND, the son of Johannes and Elizabeth (Holzwarth) Diegel. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. In 1947 he bought a farm near Dawson and in 1949 he purchased the Ted Lang farm NW of Wishek.
He and Violet Eiseman were married November 13, 1949 at Wishek, ND. They made their home on the farm NW of Wishek until 1995 when they moved into Wishek. He entered the Wishek Retirement Home in July of 2007.
He was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, served on the church council, also served as a director on the Rural Fire Department and belonged to the Wishek Saddle Club. They also belonged to the Diamond Square Dancers.
He is survived by his wife, Violet, Wishek, ND; 2 daughters, Nancy Fettig, Billings, MT; Sheila (Lyle) Sather, Frazee, MN; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel) Anderson; Colette Bitz; Dion (Kari) Bitz; Shane (Jennifer) Rohweder; 3 step grandchildren, Barb Fettig, Eric Fettig and Zeb Fettig; 8 great grandchildren, Kellan Barry, Kaden Anderson, Keaton Anderson, Beau Bitz; Bailey Bitz; Korbin Rohweder; Kash Rohweder; Kloee Rohweder; 2 step great grandchildren, Kailyn Hushagen and Zaine Fettig; 2 sisters, Esther Fandrich, Jamestown, ND and Hulda Kitzman, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son-in-law, Sebastian Fettig, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, and 3 in infancy.
The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 17 2009 in the St. Luke Lutheran Church at Wishek, ND, with Rev. Adam Roberts, pastor officiating.
The interment will be made in the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery at Wishek.
