Verna Mayer

Verna Mayer, 95, Colorado Springs, CO, died Tuesday May 27, 2014 in the Winslow Court Assisted Living Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

Verna Gahner was born, Feb 5, 1919, on the family farm near Jud, ND the daughter of Fred and Karolina (Kleinknecht) Gahner. She attended country school, graduating from the 8th grade. She helped with chores on the farm and later worked as a housekeeper, also a nurse maid in Jamestown.

She and Arthur M Mayer on Dec.5, 1941 at Gackle, ND. They farmed near Sidney and Millarton, ND. In 1945 they purchased a farm southwest of Montpelier, ND and lived there for 40yrs farming and raising cattle. They retired in 1976 and continued to reside on the farm. In 1985 they moved to Jamestown, ND. After Verna's husband passed, in 1999, she moved to the Jameshouse. In 2001she made her home in Colorado Springs with Marilyn and her family. In May of 2013 she moved to Winslow Court Assisted Living Center in Colorado Springs, Co. She enjoyed Sewing, embroidering, crocheting, and quilting.

Verna was very active in Montpelier Presbyterian Church. Was a Sunday and Bible school teacher, and held office in their Ladies Circle. In the Jamestown Presbyterian Church, she sang in the chancellor Choir, served as a Deacon and usher, was a member of the ladies night circle, she enjoyed all events at the church. She was a charter member of the Senior Okay Club

Verna is survived by 2 daughters Marilyn (Leroy)Lovato, Colorado Springs, CO; Carlotta(Carl) Posz, Excelsior, MN; and a son Allan Arthur, Richfield, MN; 3grandchildren, Anna Marie, Christopher Michael Lovato and Adrian Conrad Posz, one sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, parents, 5 sisters and 7 brothers.

Interment - Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND
Visitation - 6:00PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday @ the funeral home
