Tillie Dewald passed from this earth into God's hands on Friday, December 24. She passed away at the Mandan Living Center where she resided for just nine days.
Tillie suffered a stroke in late September of 2009 which required her to become a resident of the Napoleon Care Center where she resided until December 2, 2010. With much determination and daily therapy, Tillie recovered and was able to participate in all of the activities provided at that facility. Her favorite day was Tuesday because that was cookie baking day. She was also very proud of the piggy bank that was filling up with her winnings from the many games that were played there each day.
Born on September 20, 1924, on a farm west of Streeter, ND she was the second oldest of seven children born to John and Christine Schumaker.
Tillie married John Dewald in October of 1945 and began their farming life together which they shared until John's death on September 21, 1999. They were blessed with five children; three daughters and two sons.

For 55 years Tillie worked tirelessly with her husband John on the family farm and continued to live and work there for another ten years after his death. She was most happy when she was able to help Joel do whatever was necessary to continue the successful farming operation she and John began.
When she wasn't outside helping move equipment, unloading grain trucks, cutting grass, or weeding the garden you could always find Tillie in the kitchen baking something delicious. She will always be remembered for her wonderful "honey cookies" that she shared with so many friends and family through the years.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, John and their son Dean, her parents John and Christine Schumaker and her six siblings; Alvin, Reuben, Harry, Albert, Viola, and Alice.
