Steve Schlecht, 47, Gackle, ND Died Monday morning February 16, 2009 at his home NW of Gackle, ND.
Steven Schlecht was born December 19, 1961 at Jamestown, ND, the son of Arnold Schlecht and Annetta (Batsch) Schlecht. He attended the Streeter Public School and graduated in 1980. He entered the United States Army in September of 1980 and served for 3 years. In May of 1981 he married Lolita Buck at Streeter, ND. He was stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL and Ft. Riley, KS. He also served 18 months in Uffenheim, Germany as a helicopter mechanic. He was discharged in the fall of 1983 at Fort Dix, New Jersey with the rank of E 4. In April of 1984 he moved to Jessup, MA where he worked construction for 8 years. He also attended college classes at College Park, Maryland.
He and Shari Reid were married March 17, 1991 at Laplata, Maryland. They moved back to Steve's parent's farm in Gackle, ND in July of 1992. Steve started his own business as Steve Schlecht Construction. In 1996 he took in a partner, Rick Schulz, and the company became Schlecht and Schulz Construction LLP in Streeter, ND. They specialized in building, sales, concrete and erection of steel and wood buildings.
He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND, the American Legion Post #265, and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife Shari, Gackle, ND; 1 daughter, Carina (Barret) Wittmier, Bismarck, ND, 1 son, Anthony Schlecht, Gackle, ND; 2 step sons, Mark (Tiffany) Heflin, Lincoln, ND, Andrew (Lindi) Heflin, Gackle, ND, 1 step daughter, Heather Boor, Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, 10 grandchildren, his parents, Arnold and Annetta Schlecht, Gackle, ND; his paternal grandmother, Esther Schlecht, Streeter, ND; 2 sisters, and 1 brother, Angela (Gary) Ternes, Bismarck, ND; Kelly (Trish) Schlecht, Santa Anna, CA; Jolene (Steve) Ellefson, Bismarck, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday February 20, 2009 in the Streeter Memorial Hall in Streeter, ND with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann and Rev. James Moos, officiating.
The interment will be made in the Streeter City Cemetery in Streeter, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:30 P.M. Thursday @ United Methodist Church in Streeter
