Rupert Kleingartner, 85, Gackle, ND died Tuesday evening June 30, 2009 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.
Rupert Kleingartner was born September 22, 1923 at Gackle, ND, the son of Balzar Kleingartner and Olga (Schlenker) Kleingartner. He received his elementary education in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He entered the United States Army on January 24, 1945 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan. He was discharged December 5, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA with the rank of CPL.
He and Lorraine Mueller were married May 1, 1947 at the Congregational Church in Kulm, ND. They made their home on a farm 9 miles South of Gackle where they have lived and farmed their entire life. Rupert's greatest joys in life were his family and farming; which during his retirement became the pastime which made him the most happy.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, American Legion Mayer-Morlock Post 250. He has been active in the Logan County Soil Conservation and Logan County Weed Board.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, Gackle, ND, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary (Virginia) Kleingartner, Detroit Lakes, MN; Alan (Peggy) Kleingartner, Gackle, ND; 1 grandson, Aaron (Kari) Kleingartner, West Fargo, ND; 7 brothers and 2 sisters, Irvin (Edna) Kleingartner, Jamestown, ND; Gordon Kleingartner; Albin (Joyce) Kleingartner; Norman (Karen) Kleingartner; all of Gackle, ND; Norbert (LuElla) Kleingartner, Fargo, ND; Melvin âPete' (Sharon) Kleingartner, Princeton, MN; Edwin (Sharon) Kleingartner, Bozeman, MT; Helen Kleingartner, Blaine, MN and Lillian (Dayton) Ward, New Brighton, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Martha Kleingartner and 1 sister-in-law, Laverna.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Friday July 3, 2009 in the First United Church of Christ in Gackle, ND with Rev. Tim Blackman, pastor officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Gackle Cemetery.
Visitation: 9-9 Thursday at the funeral home in Gackle.
Family will call on friends between the times of 7-8 on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
