Rudolph G. Hoffmann, 87, Medina, ND died Thursday morning December 1, 2005 at the Central Dakota Village in Jamestown, ND.
Rudolph Hoffmann was born May 29, 1918 at Cleveland, ND, the son of Gottlieb Hoffmann and Louise (Weist) Hoffmann. He helped on the family farm in the Medina-Cleveland area and received his elementary in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity.
In the 30's he joined the CCC's. He was there until December of 1939 at which time he entered the United States Army. Rudy is a WWII Veteran having served in Europe, Africa, Italy, Rome and Sicily. He was in the following battles: Tunisia - Rome Arno, and the North Apennines. Rudy was honorably discharged in September of 1945. He was proud to have received the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Five Overseas Service Bars.
After his discharge, he farmed for a time until he began running the American Legion Club.
He and Jacqualine Martel were married December 22, 1950 in Medina. They lived and farmed North of Medina until 1954 when they moved into Medina. Rudy worked at the Medina Implement, Bohn's Hardware, Farmer's Union as the tire man, Northern Improvement Company-City of Medina, Guthmiller Earthmoving and Gil's Bar until the time he retired.
He entered the Central Dakota Village in August 22, 2005.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Medina, ND, Medina Ambulance and Fire Department, and for many years, Secretary of Medina Wildlife Club and American Legion. He was also Justice of the Peace and married a few couples.
He enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and dancing.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jackie, Medina, ND, one son Rory (Kim) Hoffmann, Medina, ND; one daughter, Amy (Ron) Binder, Steele, ND; 3 grandchildren, Heather (Brian) Moser, Lincoln, ND; Logan and Lindsay Hoffmann, Medina, ND; 3 great grandchildren, Brianna, Kohl, Kylee Moser, Lincoln, ND; 2 sisters, Viola Trautman, Medina, ND; Dorothy (Bill) Lauber, Jamestown,ND, and several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Anthony, 1 grandson,
Skye, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2005 in the United Church of Christ in Medina, North Dakota with Rev. Karl Limvere, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota
