Roger Gums, 56, Thief River Falls, MN formerly of Jamestown/Gackle, ND died early Tuesday morning February 10, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN.
Roger Gums was born October 18, 1952 at Jamestown, ND the son of Alvin Gums and Delores (Krieger) Gums. He received his education at the Cleveland Public Schools and later transferring to the Gackle Public School, graduating from Gackle High School in 1970.
He and Germaine Deutscher were married January 12, 1973 in Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where he worked construction for a while, later going to work for Montgomery Wards, which became Hanson's Tire, for 28 years. In 2001 he moved into Gackle, ND and worked road construction. Due to his health, in 2005 he moved to Thief River Falls, MN to be closer to his family.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN, Gackle Lions Club, and Dakota Anglers of Jamestown. He enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son Jason (Cristin) Gums, Red Lake Falls, MN; 3 grandchildren, Taylor, Alysa and Brady, all of Red Lake Falls, MN; his mother, Delores (Melvin) Muller, Gackle, ND; 1 brother, Rodney (Robin) Gums, Jamestown, ND; 1 sister, Rayette, (Jim) Walters, Jamestown, ND, 1 step-sister, Kristie (Dan) Hermanson, Zimmerman, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin, and 1 brother, Randy in 2000.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday February 13, 2009 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Russ Pollock, officiating.
The interment will be at Gackle Cemetery, Gackle, ND.
Visitation: 9 - 9 Thursday February 12, 2009 at the Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown
Prayer service will be held at 7:00 Thursday at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown
