Raymond Wetzel, 82, Streeter, ND died early Tuesday morning December 7, 2010 at the St. Alexius TCU in Bismarck, ND after a 7 month battle with cancer.
Raymond Wetzel was born May 29, 1928 near Danzig, ND, the son of Jacob Wetzel and Lydia (Janke) Wetzel. He attended the rural school through 8th grade and received his high school diploma while in the Army.
He entered the US Army on December 5, 1951 serving with the 10th Infantry Division, Company L, 87th at Ft. Riley, KS. Then on May 20, 1952 he was stationed in the 4th Infantry Division, 12th Regiment in Germany until November 23, 1953 when he was honorably discharged at Ft. Sheridan, IL with the rank of PFC.
Raymond and Edna Mayer were married on November 25, 1954 at Streeter, ND. They farmed for 1 year at Lehr on Raymonds parent's farm. They then moved to their home south of Streeter where they farmed for 55 years. Over the past several years, they have spent time at their homes on the farm and in Bismarck.
Raymond was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter. He was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Pastor Relations Committee and the Board of Trustees for the church. He was a Member of the American Legion Post #265 in Streeter. He enjoyed reading historical books and working on puzzles. Raymond was a hard working man who enjoyed farming, his cattle, open pastures, spending time with and providing for his family.
He is survived by his wife Edna, Streeter, ND; 2 sons, Lynn Wetzel, West Fargo, ND; Roger (Kathleen) Wetzel, Bismarck, ND; 2 daughters, Roxanne (Richard) Rabold, Colorado Springs, CO; Vydell Wetzel (Kevin Crane), Philo, CA; 5 grandchildren, Nathan Rabold, Jordan Rabold, Jennifer Wetzel, Kimberly Wetzel, Christina Wetzel; 5 brothers, Clarence Wetzel, Bismarck, ND; Arthur (Geneva) Wetzel, New Brighton, MN; Elmer Wetzel, Bismarck, ND; Orville (Betty) Wetzel, Burnsville, MN; Wilbur (Pat) Wetzel, Rosemond, CA; 2 sisters, Olive Bittner, Billings, MT and Ruth Saylor, Aberdeen, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, Harold, Walwin, Rueben, Emil and Ervin.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday December 13, 2010 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann and Rev. Perry Schnabel, officiating.
The interment service will be held at the Streeter City Cemetery in Streeter, ND in the spring.
