Philip Obrigewitsch, 96, Medina, ND died Tuesday evening March 31, 2009 at the Ellendale Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Ellendale, ND.
Philip Obrigewitsch was born May 27, 1912 on his parents homestead near Belfield, ND the son of Anton Obrigewitsch and Eugenia (Ott) Obrigewitsch. He received his elementary education at the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity and helped on the family farm.
He entered the US Army July 22, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN and served in the European Theater in Africa and Italy during WWII. He was honorably discharged at Camp McCoy, WI, October 10, 1945 with the rank of CPL.
He and Leona Ries were married January 24, 1946 at Belfield, ND. They made their home on a farm north of Belfield where they farmed. In 1959 they moved to a farm 3 ½ miles South of Medina, ND where they farmed until 1995, when they sold their farm to their son Edwin and in 1996 they moved into Medina. In 2008 they entered the Villa Maria at Fargo, ND.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Medina and served as church treasurer. He was also a life member of the American Legion at Belfield.
He is survived by his wife Leona, Fargo, ND; 4 sons, Raymond (Sharyn)Obrigewitsch, Antioch, CA; Mitchell "Mike" (Georgianna) Obrigewitsch, Gaylord, MI; Lambert Obrigewitsch, Gschwend, Germany; Edwin Obrigewitsch, Medina, ND, 6 daughters, Patricia (John) Holland, Appleton, MN; Audrey Obrigewitsch, Apple Valley, MN; Janet (Dan Phipps) Obrigewitsch, Orono, MN; Mary (Joe) Kelsch, Fargo, ND; Bernadette (Edward Schmidt) Obrigewitsch, Alexandria, MN; Francine Obrigewitsch, Las Vegas, NV; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Josephine Obrigewitsch, Jennie Wanner, both of Dickinson, ND, and 1 sister-in-law, Florence Obrigewitsch, Belfield, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter, Michelle Lewis, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
The Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday April 6, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Medina, ND with Father Jerome Hunkler, officiating.
The interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Medina, ND.
Visitation: 10:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Saturday & Noon - 9:00 P.M. Sunday @ the funeral home
Prayer Service: 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home
