Morris Schlecht, 71, Bismarck, ND died Tuesday July 1, 2008 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
Morris Schlecht was born January 7, 1937 at Lehr, ND the son of Herbert Schlecht and Esther (Kauk) Schlecht. He was raised on the family farm west of Streeter, ND and attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and graduated from Streeter High School in 1955. He went to Railroad School in Minneapolis, MN.
He enlisted in the United States National Guard at Fort Bliss, TX. Upon his discharge from the service, he lived in California where he did construction and mastered the art of building homes, cement work and woodworking. He later returned to Streeter, ND where he became a cattle rancher, a steward of the land and gentle with his livestock, he took pride in keeping a beautiful farmstead, with many trees and tidy equipment. He retired from ranching in 1998 and built his own beautiful home in Bismarck where he has been with family and his very special companion Evelyn Cowell, who has been there for him, helping him stay positive with his long battle with cancer.
He was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God Church in Bismarck. He enjoyed league bowling, playing pool with his friends, dancing, his car collection, loved to have fun and attending the Norsk Hostfest. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by 1 son, Wade (Jill) Schlecht, Streeter, ND; Tina (Shawn) Smith, Mountain. Top, PA, 5 grandchildren, Corey, Keith, Ashlyn, Alesha, Austin, 2 step grandchildren, Cherie, Trent Gehrig, his mother, Esther Schlecht, Streeter, ND, 3 brothers, Arnold (Annetta) Schlecht, Kermit (Sharon) Schlecht, Streeter, ND, Percy (Suzanne) Schlecht, Gackle, ND, 2 sisters, Florence (Marvin) Grenz, Napoleon, ND, Thelma (Malvin) Wall, Tappen, ND, special friends, Evelyn Cowell, Bismarck, ND, Coy (Mike) McGomez, Mountain Top, PA.
He was preceded in death by his father, and 1 son, David.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday July 7, 2008 at the Evangel Assembly of God Church in Bismarck, ND, with Pastor Roger Will, officiating.
The burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
