Maurice Elhard, 73, Gackle, ND died Tuesday July 1, 2008 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Maurice was born October 11, 1934 in Jud, ND, the son of George Elhard and Lydia (Geinert) Elhard. He received his elementary education in Raney Township School and the Gackle High School. He moved to Chicago, IL in 1950 with his mother after the death of his father. He moved back to North Dakota in 1952 and worked for his cousin Roy Geinert for 3 years. In 1956 he worked for Remboldt Clothing Co.

He and Marilyn Schlittenhard were married July 7, 1957. They made their home on a farm SW of Jud, ND from 1957 to 1961. They moved into Gackle and raised laying hens and sold eggs from 1961 to 1963. Maurice worked for the Gackle Creamery from 1963-1969. In 1969 they owned and operated the Gackle Tastee Freeze until 1978 when they sold the business. Maurice then worked for the City of Gackle and later the Gackle Country Club. He also helped his son George at George's WoodShop. Following his retirement he enjoyed doing yard work and helping at the Greenhouse in the spring.

He is a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, where he taught Sunday school and is a Deacon; he also is a member of the Gackle Cemetery Board, Gackle Ambulance, Fire Dept, Lions Club being a Charter member, and the Gackle Development.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, one son and daughter, George Elhard and Patty Elhard, all of Gackle, ND, 1 brother and 3 sisters, Raymond (Marjorie) Elhard, Bloomington, MN, Violet Mares, Berwyn, IL, Myrtle (Jerry) Yesia, Lagrane, IL and Alma Opp, Gackle, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Edwin and Irvin.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday July 5, 2008 in the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Timothy Blackman, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND.
Visitation- Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-11 at the Funeral home and 1 hour before services at the Church on Saturday.
