Mathilda Miller, 95, Gackle, ND died Saturday morning January 15, 2011 at the Wishek Home for the Aged.
Mathilda Gienger was born September 27, 1915 on the family farm 4 miles SW of Gackle, ND the daughter of Jacob Gienger and Christina (Lippert) Gienger. She received her elementary education in the local rural school in Neudorf Township and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.
She and Emil Miller were married September 30, 1936 at Napoleon, ND. They farmed with Emil's parents from 1936-1942. After his fathers death they purchased the farm and continued to live on the farm until 1960, completing 33 years of farming. She worked hard setting Haystacks and milking cows. They retired and moved into Gackle. Mathilda cleaned and prepared chickens, ducks and geese for over 30 years. She also was an assistant cook for the Gackle Hospital. She provided adult Foster Care in their home for 18 years. Emil passed away on October 28, 1991. She continued to reside in Gackle and then moved to the Gackle Care Center. She moved to Fargo for a short time before residing with the Randy Miller family. She then entered the Wishek Home for the Aged in Wishek where she has resided.
Surviving are 3 sons, Norbert (Eileen) Miller, West Fargo, ND, Norman E. (Karen) Miller, Gackle, ND, Calvin (Patricia) Miller, Ninitchik, Alaska, 6 grandchildren; Anita (Scott) Hoger, Katina (Jared) Sprenger, Randy (Anna) Miller, Luther Miller, Angela Miller and Sarah (Adeel) Miller-Afzal, 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother; Paul (Violet) Gienger, Gackle, ND.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle,
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 sisters, Maria, Erna, Eva, Bertha and Freida.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 19, 2011 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Linda Schauer, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery in the Spring.
