Martha Schumacher, 98, Jamestown, formerly of Streeter, ND died Sunday September 1, 2013 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND.

Martha Marie Mertz was born April 6, 1915 on the family farm South of Tappen, ND the daughter of John Mertz, Sr. and Christine (Reuer) Mertz. She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.

She and Adam Schumacher were married April 14, 1936 at Streeter, ND. They lived on a farm 15 miles west of Streeter by Alkali Lake from 1936 to 1948 when they moved to a 40 acre farm on the southeast edge of Streeter. Adam worked as a mechanic for a couple years before they became owners of the Friendly Bar which they operated for over ten years. Following the death of her husband December 2, 1989 she continued to reside in Streeter until 2007 when she moved to Jud, ND. She entered the Gackle Care Center in 2009 and the Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown in 2013.

She was a member of the St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter.

She enjoyed Crocheting, quilting, making rugs and playing Bingo.

She is survived by her children, LeRoy (Ruth) Schumacher, Rapid City, SD; Mavis Gohner, Jud, ND; 8 grandchildren, Deb (Roger) Widner, Laurie (Phil) Campbell, Rhonda (Arlyn) Pfaff, John Gohner, Sherry (Gohner) Schapp, Marcia Tarpinian, Mari (Doug) Padgett, Wayne (Tara) Gohner; 15 great grandchildren and17 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law, Jim Gohner; 1 granddaughter Susan Tirman; 1 great granddaughter, Kasey Jo Pfaff; 5 brothers, Reinhold, John, Rudolph, Jake, Gust and 4 sisters, Matilda, Malida, Lydia and Tillie.

Funeral Service - 10:30 AM Thursday September 5, 2013 at the St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND with Pastor Ryan Ferwerda, officiating.

Interment - Lutheran Cemetery in Streeter, ND.

Visitation: 1 hour before the service at the Church
