Mabel Johnston, 87, Fargo, ND died Saturday afternoon March 4, 2006 at her daughter's home in Fargo, ND.
Mabel Fode was born December 20, 1917 at the family farm near Jud, ND, the daughter of George Fode and Elizabeth (Koenig) Fode. She attended the local school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.
She and Joseph L. Johnston were married October 31, 1946 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home on a farm near Windsor, ND until 1949 when they bought a farm NW of Woodworth, ND. In 1966 they moved to Carrington where she worked at the Carrington Hospital as a nurse aid until 1980 when she retired. They enjoyed traveling and wintering in California. In 1993 they moved to Jamestown. Following the death of her husband March 12, 1995, she continued to reside in Jamestown until moving to Fargo in 1996 where she live with her daughter Shirley.
She was a member of the Federated Church in Carrington, ND.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Shirley (Laurel "Slim") Herrmann, Fargo, ND, Ruth (fiance - Craig Gaier ) Johnston, Jamestown, ND, 6 grandchildren, Joseph Johnston, Tammy (Dyke) Landberg, Teresa Pahl, Tanya Pahl, Melissa Herrmann and Michele Herrmann, 6 great grandchildren, David, Victoria, Tabitha Landberg, Brady, Anthony and Sage Pahl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
The graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday March 6, 2006 at the Highland Home Cemetery at Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
