Leonard Nitschke, 85, Jud, ND, died Friday morning, May 12, 2006 at the Veteran's Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Leonard Nitschke was born March 7, 1921 at the homestead farm one and a half miles north of Jud, ND, the son of Mathias Nitschke and Katherina (Lippert) Nitschke. He attended Jud elementary school, and worked on the family farm. He was drafted into service of WWII, October 7, 1942. He was in the 602 nd Field pack Artillery. He also served in the Aleutian Islands, Italy, France and Germany. He was wounded in Italy and received the Purple Heart, and was discharged September 29, 1945.
He and Viola Koenig were married October 19, 1947 in Alfred. They made their home on a farm west of Jud, ND where they farmed until 1981 when they retired and continued to reside in Jud.
He is survived by his wife Viola, Jud, ND; 2 sons, Harvey (Patty) Nitschke, Fargo, ND; Milo (Martha) Nitschke, San Antonio, TX; 3 grandchildren, 1 brothers, Edwin (Luella) Nitschke, Jamestown, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Sunday May 14, 2006 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, North Dakota with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
The interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
