Katherine Leah Rott Schauer, 98, Bismarck ND Died Sunday March 23, 2008 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck, ND.
Katherine was born January 9, 1910 in McIntosh County, ND, the daughter of John G. Rott and Christina (Liebig) Rott. Katherine enjoyed life and played many different roles. She graduated from Streeter High School in 1929. She studied to be a teacher in Ellendale and Valley City colleges attended business college at Bismarck. As a young woman she was a teacher.
She and Edwin Schauer were married on September 20, 1936. She and Edwin purchased a farm 6 miles northwest of Streeter. They worked hard, Side-by-side, transforming an abandoned rundown piece of property into a showplace. In 1967, after Edwin died, Katherine moved to Wishek, ND where she worked as a secretary in an insurance company. During that time she also looked after her mother and Father who were in a nursing home in Wishek. She retired in 1977, and moved her ailing father in with her. After her father's death, she moved to Bismarck.
During her life Katherine gave back to others. She was a Sunday school teacher and taught Bible classes at the United Methodist churches in Streeter, Wishek and Bismarck. She volunteered her time through various social organizations and at the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck, where she eventually became a patient.
Katherine enjoyed nature, especially birds and flowers. She brightened the lives of those around her. Even as her quality of life diminished, she appreciated what she had and had a positive effect on those who cared for her.
She is survived by her sister, Eloise Backsen and 8 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, 1 brother, George Rott, 2 sisters, Da Lenda Ludtke and Perina Middaugh.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday March 25, 2008 at the Baptist Nursing Home Chapel in Bismarck, ND with Rev. Kermit Culver, officiating.
The interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND
