Joseph Stroh, 90, Jamestown, ND died Feb. 25, 2009 at Hi-Acres Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.
Joseph Eugene Stroh was born March 24, 1918 at the Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, ND the son of Edward Stroh and Freda (Klein) Stroh. He received his elementary education in the Island Lake School south of Urbana, ND and grew to manhood in the Eckelson and Urbana area.
He was drafted into the United States Army February 6, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served as a Gunner on a tank destroyer in the Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe campaign. He was wounded in action on March 10, 1945 and was hospitalized until he was discharged October 10, 1945 at Topeka, KS with the rank of T-4.
He and Elizabeth Magdalene Reiss were married May 8, 1943. They made their home on a farm near Windsor, ND where they farmed until his retirement in 1980. In 1996 they moved to Jamestown where they have resided. They were able to share nearly 66 years of married life together.
He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church in Windsor, and the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, the Disabled American Veterans for 63 years, lifelong member of the KC's, Veterans of Foreign War. Joseph loved to play cards, hunt, fish and garden. He enjoyed life and felt one with nature.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty), Jamestown, ND, 6 sons, Joseph Stroh, Jr., Paul (Karmen) Stroh, Jamestown, ND, Robert (Sally) Stroh, Bismarck, ND, Steve Stroh, , David (Dorene) Stroh, all of Jamestown, Frank Stroh, Guam, USA, 9 daughters, Carolyn (Terrance) Hazer, Woodworth, ND, Jeanine (William) Altringer, Sanborn, ND, Rosalyn (Kenneth) Dockter, Mary (Clydell) Dockter, all of Streeter, ND, Dorothy (Michael) Robyt, Noreen (Duane) Andersen, Patricia (Larry) Wahl, Betty Jo (Bruce) Oster, all of Jamestown, ND, Theresa (Bob) Frohlich, Bismarck, ND, 36 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, 1 grandson, Kyle Snow, 2 daughters-in-law, Nancy Stroh and Anne Stroh, 2 brothers, Wilbert and Bernard, 4 sisters, Amanda, Bernice, Agnes and Bernadine.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday March 2, 2009 in the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND with Father John McGinnis, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, ND. (Spring)
