Jacob âJack' Batsch, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday evening April 23, 2009 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.
Jack was born March 19, 1925, the son of Edward Batsch and Bertha (Gumke) Batsch on the family farm 12 miles South of Gackle, ND. He grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He entered the United States Army November 10, 1944 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater with the 466th Military Police Platoon. He was discharged January 23, 1946 at Camp MCoy, WI with the Rank of Private
He and Lorretta Nitschke were married November 30, 1947. They made their home on his parent's farm for 1 year before buying their own farm west of Gackle where they resided for 10 years. They moved to Jamestown and he was employed at the North Dakota State Hospital for 3 years. He then became employed with Midwest Motor Express which he did until 1980 when he retired. Following his retirement they have continued to reside in Jamestown.
He was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church in Jamestown, ND, Men's Fellowship group, the American Legion, VFW and the Jamestown Eagles. He was a very special man to many and could talk to anyone. He loved and enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always ready with a hug, a smile and a stuffed toy. He will be missed by many.
Surviving are his wife, Lorretta, Jamestown, ND, his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie (Terry) Kooker, Linton, ND, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 5 brothers and 2 sisters, Raymond (June) Batsch, Jamestown, ND, Elmer (Doris) Batsch, Gackle, ND, Marvin Batsch, Harvey, ND, Leonard (Charlotte) Batsch, Valley City, ND, Eugene Batsch, Minot, ND, Annetta (Arnold) Schlecht, Gackle, ND, Doris (Clifton) Hill, Columbia, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Edwin and Norbert, 2sisters, Lorraine and Gertrude.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday April 27, 2009 in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Susan Lester, pastor officiating.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM Sunday April 26, 2009 at the funeral home
