Ivan G. Gilmore, 85, Jud, ND died Saturday morning October 27, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Ivan Gilmore was born February 24, 1922 at Jud, North Dakota, the son of George Gilmore and Mathilda (Nitschke) Gilmore. He received his elementary education at the local rural school in Glen Township and grew to manhood in the vicinity where worked on the family farm. He entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, MN on February 21, 1945. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged December 9, 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington with the Rank of T/4. He re-entered the Army at Jud, ND September 27, 1950, and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged September 14, 1951
He and Irene Bossart were married on November 4, 1950 at Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in Junction City, KS while Ivan was stationed at Fort Riley during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharged they returned to North Dakota to farm NW of Jud, ND with his brother Glenn. Following his retirement in 2002 they have continued to reside on the farm.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jud, ND, he served on the LaMoure County Selective Service Board for over 20 years and a member of the Mayer-Morlock Post 250 American Legion in Gackle, ND. He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had a Life Membership
He is survived by his wife Irene, Jud, ND; 2 sons, Rod (Vicki) Gilmore, Mandan, ND; Ron (Candy) Gilmore, Fargo, ND, 4 grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Urban, Mariah and Morgan Gilmore and Christian Urban, all of Fargo, ND, his brothers, Glenn Gilmore, Jud, ND; sisters Viola Stickler, Seattle, WA and Delores Kingston, Cupertino, CA, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter LaRae Gilmore Hillius in 2004 and one brother Roy.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday November 1, 2007 at the Jud United Methodist Church in Jud, ND with Rev. Rodney Ulmer, pastor officiating.
The interment will be made in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Edgeley, ND at 4 PM.
Visitation: 9-9 Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
