Howard Lloyd (Blackie) Weispfenning, 74, Jamestown, ND died Saturday morning August 22, 2009 at the Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND.

Howard was born December 3, 1934 at the family farm home near Fredonia, ND, the son of Otto Weispfenning and Mathilda (Rath) Weispfenning. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education. In 1945 he moved with his parents to Jamestown where he attended Jamestown High School.

He entered the United States Army July 7, 1955. He served in Korea until being Honorably Discharged May 2, 1957 at Oakland, CA with the rank of Sp3.

He and Carol Anderson were married April 19, 1959 at Britton, SD. They made their home in Jamestown where he worked at Cashway building houses. He went to work at the Coca Cola Plant, later driving truck at Valley Sales for 27 years. He worked for Lindberg Brothers until retiring and has continued to reside in Jamestown.

He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where he went to Sunday School and was confirmed, a member of the V.F.W., Eagles, American Legion, Drum & Bugle Corp, and the Dakota Anglers. He liked fishing, hunting and attending his big flower garden, feeding and watching the birds in the back yard. He loved to make things out of wood and give it to family and friends. He did those things until he couldn't do it anymore. He was a good husband, dad, grandfather, brother and uncle. He also enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins with his grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, Jamestown, ND; 5 daughters and 1 son, Brenda (Jim) DuBose, Otto, NC; Connie Weispfenning, Moorhead, MN; Colleen (Jim) Schmoker, LaMoure, ND; Robin (Josh) Bowen, Cynthia (John) Kleven, Howard Jr. (Candace) Weispfenning, all of Jamestown, ND, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 6 sisters and 3 brothers, Lorraine Harrington, Federal Way, WA; Anna Olson, Plant City, FL; Lillian Sundeim, Jamestown, ND; Viola Seitz, Jamestown, ND; Darlene (Ron) Tompt, Rocklin, CA; Hildegarde Johnson, Townsend, MT; Clarence Weispfenning, Moorhead, MN; Rodger Weispfenning, Colorado Springs, CO; Norman (Jill) Weispfenning Clinton, IA; 2 sister-in-laws, Jeannie Weispfenning, Clinton, IA; and Edna Weispfenning, Fredonia, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister in infancy.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday August 25, 2009 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Ruth Kaden, officiating.
