Fennie Schlenker, 82, Stanberry, Mo., died Sept. 14, 2007, at a Stanberry nursing home.
Fennie F. Nienhuis was born March 3, 1925, on the family farm near Devils Lake, N.D., the daughter of Tjeerd and Aaltje "Alice" (Stuut) Nienhuis. She attended elementary school in a rural school near Lawton, N.D., and graduated from Devils Lake High School, Devils Lake. She married Elmer R. Schlenker on June 3, 1945, in Alfred, N.D. They lived in North Dakota, Montana, Canada and Missouri. He died April 7, 2007. While living in Jamestown, she was employed by Ken Moran, attorney at law, and later by North Central State Engineering. In 1963 they moved to Stanberry. She was employed by Dr. Albert Carlin for 28 years and later by Dr. Carlin and Drs. Jennie and Artiro Tenorio as head bookkeeper and receptionist. She and her sisters, Catherine Carlin and twin sister, Fencine Moldenhauer formed a trio when they were younger, called the "Sacred Melodies". They performed many times on the radio in Devils Lake. In the mid-1960s, they recorded an album of Christian-based songs. She was a member of the Church of God 7th Day, Stanberry.
She is survived by a son, Duane (Martha), Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Doris (Harley) Diede, Saginaw, Texas, Donna (Steve) Boone, Stanberry, and Susie (Tim) Randall, Ypsilanti, N.D.; four sisters, Catherine Carlin, Liberty, Mo., Alice Sheffield, Galt, Calif., Rose Dais, Acampo, Calif., and Fencine Moldenhauer, Albany, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services: held Sept. 20, Church of God 7th Day, Stanberry.
Burial: at a later date, Church of God Alfred Cemetery, Jud, N.D.
