Esther Ruff, 92, Jamestown, ND died Friday afternoon March 6, 2009 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.
Esther Krueger was born May 12, 1916 at the family farm home 5 miles West of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of John Krueger and Justina (Schadler) Krueger. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity, and helped on the family farm.
She and Rudolph Ruff were married on July 15, 1935 at Lehr, ND. They made their home in Guyson, ND. He was Postmaster from 1934 to 1947 when they moved to Fredonia, ND. Rudolph was a rural mail carrier and Esther was a housewife. They continued to reside in Fredonia until 1997 when they moved to Jamestown, ND. They spent 15 winters in Lodi, California to get away from the snow. After the death of her husband in 2005, she continued to live in Jamestown. In January of 2006 she entered Rock of Ages in Jamestown, ND.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Jamestown, ND.
She is survived by her children, Leona (Arven) Janke, Kulm, ND; Joan (LeMore) Hehr, Gackle, ND; Josephine (Larry) Bietz, Valley City, ND; Vivian Giannuzzi, Syracuse, NY; Charles Ruff, Fargo, ND, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandson, 1 sister Mavis (Don) Phillips, Clark Fork, ID, 1 sister-in-law, Adeline Krueger, Bismarck, ND and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Leo, Oscar, Fred,
one sister, Emma.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday March 9, 2009 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Susan Lester, officiating.
The interment will be made at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND
