Esther Metz, 98, Fargo, ND formerly of Jamestown, ND died early Monday morning August 6, 2012 in Rosewood in Fargo, ND.
Esther Henne was born April 12, 1914 at a farm 3 miles East of Alfred, ND, the daughter of Gottfried Henne and Dorothea (Fode) Henne. She attended the Alfred rural school and worked on the family farm. She worked at Mr. & Mrs. Charles Donovan's Post Office and Grocery until her marriage.
She and Emil Metz were married December 3, 1939 at the Congregational church in Alfred. They farmed near Alfred until November 1945 when they moved to Jamestown. She worked at the Jamestown Café for 12 years, North Star Café for 2 years, Trinity Hospital for 1 year and 18 years at Central Dakota Nursing Home. She retired November 2, 1984 and took several Senior Tour Trips to Hawaii, Washington, DC, Nashville, the Ozarks. She toured North and South Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, California and many more states. After the death of her husband, January 29, 1996, she continued to reside in Jamestown. In May 2, 2012 she entered the Rosewood in Fargo, ND.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary
She enjoyed her vegetable garden and flowers.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Margaret Hanson, Kerrville, TX; 2 sons, Alvin (Jan) Metz, Port Orchard, WA; LeRoy (Joy) Metz, Fargo, ND; 1 son-in-law, Duane Mulcahy, Blaine, MN; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren 9 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Clarence Henne, Wahpeton, ND; Lawrence (Ione) Henne, Helena, MT and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Dorothy Mulcahy; 1 grandson, Jonathan Metz; 1 infant great grandson, 2 brothers, Nathaniel, Erwin, 2 sisters, Edna, Ida, and son-in-law, Dick Hanson.
The Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Monday August 13, 2012 at the Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Martin Nussbaum officiating.
The interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
