Esther Karvonen

Esther Karvonen, 95, Gackle, ND died Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2005 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Esther Dormanen was born February 18, 1910 in Gackle, ND the daughter of Edward Dormanen and Emma (Terve) Dormanen. She received her elementary education in the local school. She and Charley Holmstrom, Jr. were married October 23, 1928. They made their home on a farm near Gackle. Following the death of her husband October 10, 1935 she continued to reside in Gackle.

She and Oscar Karvonen were married November 17, 1941 at Moorhead, MN. They made their home on the farm of his family near Fredonia,ND, where they lived and farmed. Following the death of Oscar April 5, 1970 she moved to LaMoure
and worked at the Senior Center as a Green Thumb worker. She later moved back to Gackle and resided in the Gackle Care Center.

She was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, sing along choir group and she delivered meals on wheels until she turned 88.

Surviving are her children, Marvin Karvonen, Lisbon, ND, Wesley (Judy) Karvonen, Fredonia, ND, Norbert (Beverly) Holmstrom, Shakapee, MN, Florence (Marvin) Kinzler, Wilmar, MN, 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and one brother, Carl ‘Rudy' Dormanen, San Bernadino, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 1 daughter, Verna, 1 son and daughter in infancy, 3 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The funeral will be at 10:30 AM Thursday September 15, 2005 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, North Dakota with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Interment will be made in the Saarie Cemetery, South of Gackle, ND.

Arrangements are with the Haut Funeral Homes in Gackle, ND.
