Ervin Becker, 90, Jamestown, ND passed away after a short illness on December 15, 2007 in the presence of his loving family at MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND.
Ervin was born on August 24, 1917 to August H. and Emma (Kogler) Becker on the family farm in Logan County east of Napoleon, ND. He grew to manhood farming with his parents and working the beet fields in Montana.
He entered the United States Army May 5, 1942. He served in Africa, Sicily, and Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in November 9, 1945 with the rank of Tech Sergeant after being awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service.
On December 6, 1945 he married "his best girl" Lenora Zimmerman, in Streeter, ND. He and Lenora worked the family farm south of Streeter until retiring to Jamestown, ND and Mesa, AZ. He will be remembered for being a caring, loving, and fun person who treated people with respect and honesty.
He served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and deacon at the Streeter Baptist Church for many years. He is currently a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown. He enjoyed all sorts of sporting events, reading every Louis L'Amour novel ever printed, playing golf, and especially playing cards and games with his grandchildren who sometimes let him win.
Ervin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lenora; 4 children: Richard (Pricilla) Becker, Bismarck, ND; Donna (Gary) Kluthe, Rapid City, SD; Dave (Arnell) Becker, Pelican Rapids, MN; and Dennis (Holly) Becker, Center, ND; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: 1 in infancy, Raymond and Clinton Becker, and 2 sisters: Hilda Jensen and Esther Norling.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday December 19, 2007 at the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Randy Jaspers, officiating.
The interment will be made in the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery at Mandan, ND.
