Emil E. Schaffer, 93, Gackle, ND died Friday Afternoon November 5, 2010 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown, ND.
Emil Schaffer was born April 2, 1917 in Logan County, South of Streeter, ND, the son of Jacob Schaffer and Clara (Schultes) Schaffer. He received his education at the local school and graduated from Gackle High School in 1935. He graduated from the Capital Commercial College in 1936. He started work at Gackle Motors in 1936.
He and Lillian Krapu were married August 20, 1939. They made their home in Gackle, ND where he farmed and also in 1946-1974 he owned and operated a gas station, the Case Implement Dealership from 1948-1968 and also the Ford Dealership. He also served as the mayor of Gackle for 10 years. In 1974 he went to work helping Rueben Metz farming until 1979 when he retired. Following the death of his wife in 2002, he continued to reside in Gackle until 2006 when he moved into Jamestown. In 2010 he entered the Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Gackle, ND. He served as church treasurer. He also held a life membership of the ND Firemen Association and served 4 terms as State Representative of the ND House from 1963-1971. He was Republican District Treasurer, and was a member of the Silver Haired Legislators.
He is survived by 1 son, Michael (Victoria) Schaffer, Hillman, MN; 1 daughter, Gayle (Bill) Chapin, Jamestown, ND; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchild, 4 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Hulda Cink, Fargo, ND.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday November 9, 2010 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
The interment will be at the Gackle Cemetery in Gackle, ND.
