Elnor Nelson, 90, Brooklyn Park, MN, died Sunday morning April 19, 2009, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN.
Elnor Ness was born April 29, 1918, on the family farm in Clark County, South Dakota, the daughter of Gilbert Ness and Theresa (Noetliech) Ness. In 1923, at the age of five, she moved to Jamestown, ND where she received her elementary education
She and Sylvester Nelson were married December 19, 1938, at Jamestown ND. They worked together on a riverboat in LaCrosse, WI, until 1942 when they moved back to Jamestown, ND. Sylvester began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad as Elnor was taking care of their two children Sharon and Gordon before she began plucking chickens for Pederson Biddick. In 1953 she began working for J.C. Penny's. She was also involved in her church Trinity Lutheran.
She and Sylvester moved to Billings MT in 1962 where she continued working for J.C. Penny's until she retired in 1978 after working for that company for 25 years. In 1979 Elnor and Sylvester moved to Missoula, MT, where they enjoyed their retirement. They loved to travel, play Bingo, socialize, and play cards. Following the death of her husband, Sylvester, in 1997 she lived alone until 2006 when she moved in with her daughter, Sharon, in Brooklyn Park, MN.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND. She was also the president of the Professional Business Women's Organization in Billings, MT. Elnor was a Breast Cancer Survivor for 19 years
She was greatly involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up and loved to hang out with family and friends. She was known for her delicious home-made apple pie and fudge. Elnor was a selfless, compassionate woman who loved life.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Sharon Neukircher, Minneapolis, MN; 1 daughter-in-law, June Nelson, Clinton, MT; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son, Gordon, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday April 25, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Leon Zavadil, officiating.
Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
Prayer service: 10:00 AM Saturday at the Funeral Home
Visitation: 9-8 Friday at the Funeral Home
