Eileen Gumke, 78, Gackle, ND died Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Med Center One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Eileen Ritola was born December 28, 1928 at Edgeley, ND, the daughter of August Ritola and Lillian (Anderson) Ritola. They moved to Gackle where she attended the local rural school and later received her G.E.D. She attended the Edmonds Community College.

She and Ray Gumke were married May 21, 1954 at Gackle, ND. They made their home on a farm 10 miles SE of Gackle until 1966 when they moved to Edmonds, WA. In 1977 they returned to Gackle where she worked at Ann's Café and was also librarian at the Gackle Library. Following the death of her husband November 18, 2002 she continued to reside in Gackle. In 2003 she entered MedCenter One Golden Manor in Steele, ND. She will be greatly missed by her friends at the Manor.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as president.

She is survived by her children, Marlys (Jerry) Kinzler-Spence, Entiat, WA, Rodney (Janice) Gumke, Las Vegas, NV, Ronald (Cindi) Gumke, Milleville, CA, Corinne Haugen, Moses Lake, WA, Clinton (Cheryl) Gumke, Fargo, ND, Kevin (Kathy) Gumke, Quincy, WA, Vickie Larson, Long Beach,MS, Dale (Holly) Gumke, York, PA, Sandra (Dave) Feland, Steele, ND, 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Marion (Delmar) Montgomery, LaMoure, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son, Clyde, brothers, and 2 sisters.

The memorial service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday September 5, 2007 in the MedCenter One Golden Manor in Steele, ND.
