Edwin Gienger, 89, Streeter, ND, died Wednesday August 9, 2006 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Mr. Gienger was born November 1, 1916 in Streeter, ND the son of John Gienger and Christina (Schmidt) Gienger. The family moved to a farm when he was six. He received his education in country schools. He was confirmed in June, 1931 in the Lutheran Church, Streeter. In 1934-35 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Badlands near Medora, ND.

He married Virginia Perman June 2, 1939 in Streeter. They made their home on a farm 6 miles SW of Streeter where they farmed. She passed on May 23, 1991.

He served on the church board in the 1950's and again in the 1970's. He served three terms on the Streeter Co-op Oil Company board beginning in 1958. He also served on the Blue Ball Township school board at one time. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church all his life. He was a farmer all his adult life. He entered Gackle Care Center in June of 2001. In later years, he enjoyed the Minnesota Twins baseball games on television and radio.

He is survived by four sons, Donald (Lila) Gienger, Streeter; Dennis Gienger, Lake Forest, CA; Gerald (Ann) Gienger, Denver, CO; Eugene (Rosanne) Gienger, Wayne, PA; one daughter, Judith (John) Hoeglund, Detroit Lakes, MN; one sister, Magdalena Bitterman, Canandaigua, NY; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be at 4:00 PM Saturday Aug. 12, 2006 in St. Luke Lutheran Church in Streter, ND with Rev. Annette Crickenberger, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Streeter, ND.
