Edwin Elhard, 96, Jamestown, ND died Thursday afternoon September 29. 2011 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.
Edwin Elhard was born on November 27, 1914 SW of Jud, ND the son of John G. and Magdalena (Kuhn) Elhard. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Jud, ND and received his elementary education in Raney Township.
He and Hulda Heine were married March 17, 1940 at the Alfred Congregational Church. They made their home on a farm seven miles west of Jud. In 1941 they bought their own farm eight miles North of Alfred, ND, in Stutsman County until 1979 when they retired and moved into Jamestown. Following the death of his wife December 7, 1993 he continued to reside in Jamestown.
During his church memberships in Gackle and Alfred he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendant. His community involvement consisted of charity drives, eight years as treasurer for Cusator School District and eighteen years as assessor for Cusator Township. Edwin recently was attending St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Jamestown, ND.
He is survived by two daughters, Erna (James) Sandness, Anoka, MN; Evelyn (Brian) Quigley, Fargo, ND; two sons Eugene (Deborah) Elhard, Ellendale, ND; Timothy Elhard, Alfred, ND; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sisters, Wilbert (Evelyn) Elhard, Jud, ND; Emma Heidinger, Kulm, ND; Esther (Charles) Ljungren, Sebeka, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hulda in 1993, an infant daughter Mary in 1943, 1 brother and 3 sisters, Reuben, Otelia, Ruth and Emelia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday October 3, 2011 in St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Arlyn Coalter, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, ND
Visitation 1-7 Sunday at the Funeral Home and 1 hour before services on Monday at the Church.
