Edward H. Becker 92, Jamestown, ND, died Monday morning April 14, 2008 at the Central Dakota Village in Jamestown, ND.
Edward Becker was born on September 20, 1915, on the family farm 11 miles east of Napoleon, ND to Henry H. and Katherina (Kogler) Becker. Edward was born with a twin brother, Arthur Becker.
Edward was raised on his parents' farm and was educated in a one-roomed rural school through the 8th grade.
Edward married Esther J. Buck on November 28, 1943 in Streeter. They farmed on the family homestead from 1943 until 1962. In 1962 they purchased the Albert Ketterling farm and moved to that farmstead. In 1979 Edward and Esther retired and moved to Napoleon. Esther died on November 28, 2001. In January of 2002, Edward moved to the Post House in Jamestown. After a severe stroke on April 7, 2008, Edward entered Central Dakota Nursing Home on April 10, 2008.
Edward was an active member and church council member at Hope EUB Church rural Streeter, and the United Methodist Churches in both Napoleon and Streeter. Edward also served on the school board of Highland School District.
Edward enjoyed farming, family, friends, fishing, hunting, card playing, reading, baseball and watching TV.
Edward is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna Ringrose (Neal Reid), Oakville, Ontario; Elayne (Elroy) Patzner, Jamestown, ND; and Jacqueline (Joseph) Becker, Bismarck, ND; 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Dr. Garry Becker (Dr. Rita), Gillette, WY; Dr. Gaylynn (Linda) Becker, Bismarck, ND: Arlynn (Bethany) Becker, Napoleon, ND; AlLynn Becker and Joe DuFloth, Minneapolis, MN; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Becker, Fargo, ND.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther;1 grandson, Brian Reid, two sisters Ida Zimmerman, and Tillie Lang; one brother Arthur; and 4 brothers who died in childhood.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday April 19, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann, and Rev. Grant Piehl, officiating.
Edward will be buried in the Napoleon Cemetery along with his wife Esther and beside his parents.
Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Homes in Jamestown, ND.
