Edmund Janke, 89, Jamestown, ND, lifelong resident of Gackle, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening February 8, 2007 with his family by his side at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Edmund Janke was born November 26, 1917 at the family farm SE of Gackle, ND, the son of Andrew Janke and Magdalena (Lippert) Janke. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity.

He and Ida Buerkle were married November 7, 1943 at a small country church near Fredonia, ND. They made their home on a farm 12 ½ miles SE of Gackle. In 1988 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. Following the death of his wife, November 10, 2001, he continued to reside in Gackle until June of 2002 when he moved into Jamestown.

He was treasurer and clerk of St. James Lutheran Church until it merged with the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle. He also served on the Lutheran church board, the Feska rural school and Gackle Public School board and worked for the Logan County A.S.C.S. for 19 years and also the County Committee Board for 9 years. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, visiting and talking, especially talking about farming and horses.

He is survived by 2 children, Sharon (Ron) Knutson, Moorhead, MN, Curtis (Jan) Janke, Jamestown, ND, 1 grand daughter, Tara Lynn Janke, Aberdeen, SD, 1 sister, Alma Schott, 1 brother, Wilbert Janke, all of Gackle, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 2 sisters.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday February 12, 2007 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Gackle, ND, with Rev. Russ Pollock, officiating.

The interment will be made in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery SE of Gackle, ND.

Prayer Service - Sunday @ 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home in Jamestown
Visitation - 9 - 5 Sat and 1 - 9 Sun at the funeral home in Jamestown
