Dorothy Lang, 87, longtime resident of Alfred, ND passed away Friday evening October 6, 2017 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.
Dorothy Maybel Frederica Forsty was born December 10, 1929 on the family farm South of Gackle, ND, the daughter of Arvid Forsty and Frederica (Koskey) Forsty. She graduated from the Gackle High School in 1946. She received her teaching certificate in Ellendale, ND. She taught country school in the Windsor and Alfred area. She was also a substitute teacher at the Alfred High School.
Dorothy and Burnett ‘Joe’ Lang were married December 6, 1949 at Aberdeen, SD. Joe managed the Oil Company for 19 years in Alfred and Dorothy was the Board Secretary. Dorothy and Joe lived in Alfred for over 60 years. Following the death of her husband in 2011 she continued to reside in Alfred. She entered Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND in September of 2017.
Dorothy loved her garden, flowers and was an excellent cook and baker. She was proud of her Finnish heritage and always tried to teach the language and music to her children and grandchildren. She spent much of her time taking care of many of Alfred’s elderly people, visiting them and helping where she was needed.
She is survived by 1 daughter and 1 son, Nona Kirby, West Hills, CA; Mick Lang, Alfred, ND; 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Brian and Carly; one sister Pearl Tyler, Spokane, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2011, 2 sisters Vivian, Norma and 1 brother Marvin
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday October 11, 2017 in the Alfred City Cemetery, Alfred, ND.
