Dennis P. Dockter, 73, a longtime Medina, ND area farmer, died Sunday December 5, 2010, unexpectedly at his home in Stewartville, MN, of natural causes.
Dennis Philip Dockter was born May 15, 1937 in Medina, ND, to Philip and Louise (Geinger) Dockter. He grew up on the family farm, attended elementary school in rural Newbury Twsp., and graduated from Streeter H.S. in 1957. During his high school years and after, he worked for various construction companies in the area.
He was married on August 8, 1959 in Bismarck, N.D. to Dian Jean Bauer. Following their marriage the couple farmed in rural Medina prior to his being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1960, including service overseas in Bordeaux, France. Following his discharge in 1963 they began farming and raising their family on the Dockter farmstead, where they continued to make their home for the next 48 years as the 4th generation of Dockters on the family farm. Mrs. Dockter was an elementary school teacher in the Medina, Streeter, Tappen and Gackle school districts for many years. They moved to Stewartville,MN in July of 2008 to live near their daughters and family.
Mr. Dockter was a member of First Baptist Church in Medina serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. The Dockters were both members of Gideon International. He was a member of the Central Grasslands Medina Elevator Board and was secretary for the Newbury Twsp. Board for 18 years. He enjoyed grain and cattle farming, always looking for the best that nature would bring, and was very blest throughout the years. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports with his wife and time spent with friends and family.
Surviors include his wife - Dian, 2 daughters - LuEvan (Denny) Padgett, Byron, MN: Jodi (James) Larson of Ft. Collins, CO: 4 grandchildren - Kylie and Jordan Padgett, Nicholas and Grace Larson/ 2 brothers, Abel (Nancy) Dockter of rural Rochester, MN and Ivahn (Carolyn) Dockter, Rochester,MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister - Iva Jean Nagel.
Friends may call 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday December 11, 2010 at Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown, ND, with Rev. Randy Jaspers, officiating.
The burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown.
