David R. MacKenzie

David R. MacKenzie, 79, Buchanan, ND died Thursday morning March 16, 2006 at his home.

David MacKenzie was born September 25, 1926 at Fairmont, MN the son of Ralph MacKenzie and Josephine (Kauphusman) MacKenzie. He received his elementary education at St. Johns Academy later receiving his GED. He grew to manhood in Jamestown.

He entered the US Army December 13, 1944 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He served in the Pacific Theater, New Guinea, Burma, Philippines. He was discharged May 10, 1949 at Fort Benning, GA with the rank of CPL. He returned to service January 16, 1951 at Jamestown and served in Korea and was discharged September 15, 1952 at Camp Carson, CO with the rank of SFC. He joined the Air Force Reserve and in 1965 he entered the Air Guard and retired in 1985. He received a rank of Master Sergeant. Dave worked for his grandparents at the Moline Café downtown Jamestown in the 1950's. In 1959 he joined the family partnership which built and operated Mac's Restaurant and Lounge. He and his brother Charles co-owned the business from 1959-1977. Dave enjoyed gardening, reading, hunting, fishing, nature, bird watching and good conversation. Dave had a passion for dogs.

Surviving are his children, Meredith (Chris) London, Princeton, MN, Harold ‘Butch' (Elise) MacKenzie, Fridley, MN and Douglas ‘Rusty'(Claudia) MacKenzie, St. Paul, MN, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law, Elna MacKenzie, Jamestown, ND and close friends, Mark and Ruth Diede, Buchanan, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, David, 1 brother, Charles and 2 sisters, Mary and Alice.

The graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday March 20, 2006 at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery with Father John Mathai, officiating.

Visitation - 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Haut Funeral Home in
Jamestown
