Clara Ost, 90, Jamestown, ND died early Monday morning March 3, 2008 in the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.
Clara Janke was born August 24, 1917 at Valley Township, South of Tappen, ND, the daughter of Johannes Janke and Maria (Joachim) Janke. She attended Valley Township School.
She and Richard Rott were married October 31, 1938 at her parent's home south of Tappen, ND. They moved to Sacramento, CA for 2 years and then back to ND and lived on a farm south of Tappen for 1 year. They then bought a farm in Crystal Springs which they shared with Richard's twin brother Edwin and Elsie Rott. In 1964 she moved to Jamestown, ND. She later married Calvin Ost.
She worked at the Weiser Lock Factory in Cudahy, CA. She was on the Crystal Springs School Board; was musically talented and played in a band. She could play organ, piano, harmonica, guitar and accordion. She wrote local news for the Jamestown Sun and the Steele Ozone Press. Clara was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen and then Atonement Lutheran Church in Jamestown. She worked in various cafés and as a babysitter in Jamestown for almost 30 years.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Stacy) Rott, Elk River, MN; Elaine Knuth, Jamestown, ND; Lucy Rova, Mandan, ND; Diane Balster, Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and 1 sister, Elsie (Edwin) Rott, Steele, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandchildren, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday March 5, 2008 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Dave Fischer, officiating
Interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation: 10 - 8 Tuesday at Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.
Family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00
