Boyd Williams, 81, Streeter, ND died Saturday morning August 22, 2009 at his home in Streeter, ND after a gallant fight against cancer.
Boyd H. Williams was born June 5, 1928 in Newbury Township on his grandparents farm NW of Streeter, ND, the son of Hubert Williams and Berneice (Nelson) Williams. He received his elementary education in the local schools and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm along with other farmers in the area. He entered the US Navy August 15, 1950 in Bismarck, ND. He served aboard a Cargo Ship, USS Alcona 157. He was discharged May 27, 1954 at Norfolk, VA with the rank of BM3.
He and Judith Reese were married June 27, 1954 at Streeter, ND. They made their home on a farm Northwest of Streeter where they lived and farmed until 1983 when they built a home and moved into Streeter.
He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter and served as Deacon. He also was a life member of the Melvin E. Bender Post #265, American Legion, VFW and the 40 and 8. He served as Commander Adjutant and Chaplain of the local American Legion. He was very active in the community until his health began to fail. He served as precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party.
Surviving are his wife Judith, Streeter, ND, three daughters; Denise (Dale) Wittmier, Streeter, ND; Janelle (Wayne) Buck, Jamestown, ND; Belinda (JD) Dahl, Gackle, ND, three sons, Bernell Williams, Medina, ND Jeffery (Margaret) Williams, Dana Williams, both of Streeter, ND; 5 granddaughters, Jessica Williams, Stephanie (James) Kuhn, Ashley Paulson (finace Lonnie Farthing), Christa (Randy) Schwartzenberger, and Cassandra Buck, 7 grandsons, Chad & Brett Williams, Christopher Kappes, Austin & Barret (Carina) Wittmier, Brooks Paulson, Weston Buck; 4 great grandchildren; Laykin Wittmier, Kolton Dockter, Elodie Kuhn, and Riley Schwartzenberger 1 brother and 2 sisters, Udell Williams, Roscoe, IL, Peggy Hoeckle, Jamestown, ND, Joyce Knisley, Oklahoma City, OK
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Glenn and 2 sisters, Janice and Sharon.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday August 27, 2009 in the St. Lukes Lutheran Church at Streeter, ND, with Rev. Chris Hogstad, officiating.
The interment will be made in the Streeter City Cemetery at Streeter, ND
The arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Homes in Jamestown, ND.
