Betty Madcke, 72, of Edgeley, ND, formerly of Jamestown, ND, passed away on March 9, 2007, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Jean Johnson was born July 17, 1934 in Jamestown to Henry and Dorothea (Turner) Johnson, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She married Garth Madcke on September 4, 1953. They raised four children while living in various cities in Montana and North Dakota. She was an Avon representative for many years. Despite her daily battle with arthritis, she loved meeting her many friends for coffee or just to visit. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. It was her wish that her body be donated for arthritis research.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Mark and Kevin (Cal) both of Edgeley, two daughters, Julie Staus and her husband Clyde, Pelican Rapids,MN, Debra Grenz and her friend Les Specht, of Spiritwood, ND, five grandchildren, Chad Staus (Jeannie), Lance Staus, Misty Westover (Aaron), Kylie Grenz and Alexa Grenz, four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Olivia and Lola Westover, and Sydney Staus, one brother Gordon (Skip) Johnson, Jamestown ND, four sisters, Arlene Trautman, Fergus Falls, MN, Lorraine Bennett, Jamestown, ND, JoAnn Nelson (Bruce), Bismarck , ND , Dorothy Gums, Jamestown, ND, four sisters-in-law, Margaret Johnson, Petaluma, CA, Muriel Johnson, Jamestown, ND, Florence Johnson, Fargo, ND, Lynda Dunn (Ambrose), brother-in-law, Alvin Madcke (Norma), mother-in-law, Anna Madcke, all of Edgeley, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers, Robert, Johnny, William, James, Eugene, Lyle, and Charles.

The memorial service will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday March 14, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Rich Fitzer, officiating.
