Bertha Elhard, 100, Bismarck, ND died Friday evening February 11, 2011 at St. Gabriel's Community in Bismarck, ND.
Bertha Heller was born November 5, 1910 at the family home 10 miles SE of Gackle, ND, the daughter of Samuel Heller and Katherina (Gumke) Heller. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.
Bertha and Otto Elhard were married October 25, 1932 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Jud, ND. They made their home SE of Kulm until 1937 when they moved into Kulm. In 1939 they moved to Fredonia where they owned and operated the Economy Store until 1969. She retired in 1971. Following the death of her husband in 1980 she continued to reside in Kulm until moving to Bismarck in 1984 where she has resided.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Kulm, a Sunday school teacher for a number of years, and Sunday School Literature Secretary for 21 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean (Daryl) Pennington, Bismarck, ND; Thelma (Carl) Kvanvig, Bismarck, ND; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 daughters, 1 brother and 5 sisters.
The funeral service will be at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday February 15, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Kulm, ND, with Pastor Chris Johnson and Rev. Harley Holden, officiating.
The burial will be made in the Assembly of God Cemetery at Kulm, ND, in the spring.
