Bernitta Krueger

Bernitta Krueger, 92 Kulm, ND died Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Eventide in Jamestown, ND.

Bernitta G Haag was born August 14, 1931 on the family farm 1 mile West of Fredonia, ND the daughter of Nathaniel and Marie (Oelke) Haag.  She attended Rural Haag County School #5, completing her elementary education. After school she worked in Jamestown, cleaning homes for several months.  She then returned home to help on the family farm after one of her brothers left for the service.

She and Raymond Krueger were married September 27, 1953.  The couple was 20 days short of their 70^th wedding anniversary when Bernitta passed.  They made their home on the Krueger family farm 4 ½ miles west of Fredonia.  Three children were born from this union. Loren, married to Roxanne Hochhalter and is living on the family farm.  Penny, married to Jason McClean living in Kulm, ND and Gregory, married to Michelle Vander Wolde, living in Harrisburg, SD.

Bernitta was a farmer! Farming was her life.  For a small woman she was very strong.  She was the one on the hay pile with the pitch fork stacking the hay or on the bale pile, stacking the bales.  She did all of the swathing and a lot of the field work.  She also was a rancher, but working the cattle was not her favorite thing to do.  She did love seeing the baby calves though. 

She and Raymond moved to Kulm in October of 1994, but still continued to help out at the farm for many years after.  These last few years they would make weekly trips out to the farm to check the cattle or just to see what was going on. 

Bernitta was baptized, confirmed and married in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, ND.  Bernitta loved music and loved to sing. She sang on the church senior choir for 60 years and also served on the Lutheran Cemetery Board.

Bernitta is survived by her husband; her three children; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren: 2 sisters, LaVina Burkle, Wishek ND and Aileen Walz, Maple Grove, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers: Arthur, Raymond, Roland, Lawrence, Harold and Isadore (infant) and 5 sisters: Ardina, Esther, Cora, Emgard and Jane.
