Arven A. Janke, 83, Kulm, ND formerly of Fredonia, ND died Wednesday evening April 28, 2010 at the Wishek Hospital in Wishek, ND.

Arven Janke was born October 28, 1926 on the family farm north of Fredonia, ND, the son of Gotthilf Janke and Olga (Tiede) Janke. He attended Haag School #4. He helped on the family farm and grew to manhood in the vicinity.

He entered the United States Army March 30, 1951 at Fargo, ND. He was stationed in the United States and Japan until his honorable discharge on February 27, 1953 at Ft. Lewis, WA with the rank of PFC.

He and Leona Ruff were married November 4, 1955 at Fredonia, ND. They made their home in Fredonia where he farmed until 2001 when they retired and moved to Kulm, ND.

He was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fredonia, ND.

He is survived by his wife, Leona, Kulm, ND; 3 daughters, Sara (Randi) Anfinson, Devils Lake, ND; Myrna Bala, Bismarck, ND; Polly Thorsness, Barnesville, MN; 2 sons, Alan (Doris) Janke, Glasofen, Germany; Loren (Dannelle) Janke, Spearfish, SD; 9 grandchildren; Matthew Anfinson, Amy (Barry) Lovseth, Andrea McCarthy, Robin Janke, Michelle Janke, Jessica(fiancé' Greg Danzeisen) Thorsness, James Thorness, Jamillah (Steve) Lieferman, Chantelle Janke, 3 great grandchildren, Bryce McCarthy, Reyna McCarthy and Zachary Lieferman. 2 brothers, Paul (Alice) Janke, Jamestown, ND; Hugo (Judy) Janke, Kulm, ND; 2 sisters, Violet Krueger, Sebeka, MN; Erna Smith, Motley, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Roland, two sisters, Lorraine and Agnes; 1 infant brother Benjamin.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday May 6, 2010 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Randall Schlecht, officiating.
The interment will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
Visitation: 10-8 Wednesday at the Funeral Home
