Anna Maas, 100, Fargo, ND died Monday afternoon, May 9, 2005 at the Elim Nursing Home in Fargo, ND.
Anna Schneekloth was born March 11, 1905 at Hartley, IA. She grew up on farm near Buffalo, ND with 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Anna attended Valley City Teacher College in the 20's, worked at the Wisconsin Dells and taught in one room schoolhouses in North Dakota and Montana. Anna arrived in Sydney at age 29 to teach in the one room school house west of Sydney.
Anna married Bill Maas in 1935. They owned and operated the Maas store and Sydney post office for 26 years. They were active Sydney Community members.
Anna was a 4H club leader, election judge, substitute teacher and Homemaker Club member. After Bill's death Anna continued operating the store for another 12 years.
She retired to Jamestown, keeping active in the Retired Teacher Association and St Johns Lutheran Women's Circle.
Anna moved in to Elim Home at 93. In spite of short term memory loss, she was her usual self, happy and witty.
She will be missed by her son Ray (Charlotte) Maas, Fargo, ND; 2 daughters, Gladys Pecore and Judy Maas, Minneapolis, MN; 2 grandchildren, Craig Maas and Suzanne (Paul) Dobbins, and 2 great grandchildren Sean and Tim Dobbins, Fargo, ND; 2 sisters-in-law, Lydia Maas, Jamestown, ND and Louise Schneekloth, Tower City, ND.
Grave side service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday May 12, 2005 at the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Doug Opp, officiating.
A lunch will follow at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.
Arrangements are with the Haut Funeral Homes in Jamestown, ND.
