Alma Kinzler

Alma Kinzler, 96, Gackle, ND died Sunday night March 17, 2013 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center in Jamestown, ND.

Alma was born on August 25, 1916 at the family farm near Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Johanes G. Burkle and Wilhilmina (Schimke) Burkle. Alma was the 8th child in a total of 12 living children. She attended school through the 8th grade at the country school near the farm. As a young adult, she moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area where she worked as a housekeeper for several different families.

On November 28, 1939, she married Walter Kinzler at Fredonia, ND. They lived for a time with her parents, then on a nearby farm, eventually moving to Fredonia. During this time, their 2 sons, Harris and Ardell, were born. About 1963, the family moved onto a farm located approximately 10 miles northwest of Fredonia. In 1967, her husband, Walter passed away. Alma then moved to Gackle where she resided until 2005. The years in town seemed to be her best years, she was very happy. She had a beautiful garden every summer and took much pride in its appearance. Her canned pickles were the best! She took on a number of tasks such as painting houses, helping with church events but her claim to fame was cooking for the Gackle Café where she excelled in the preparation of German dishes and established quite a reputation. Due to failing health she had to leave her much loved home in Gackle and moved into an assisted living facility in Jamestown.
You are missed and we love you very much.

Alma is survived by her son, Ardell and wife, Diane, Chewelah, WA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Kinzler, Jamestown, ND; 5 grandchildren, Gina Kinzler, Fargo, ND; Renee ( David) Listul, Jamestown, ND; Michelle (Ray) Hammer, Jamestown, ND; Candace (Troy) Daniels, Chewelah, WA; and Alicia (Tristan) O'Neil, Snoqualmie, WA; 7 great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Olivia Listul, Levi and Hunter Daniels, Burke, Maggie and Greysen O'Neil.
