Alice Schmidt, 89, Jamestown, ND died Thursday evening July 23, 2009 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Alice Rivinius was born May 3, 1920 at the family farm SE of Streeter, ND, the daughter of William Rivinius and Katherina (Wolff) Rivinius. She received her education at the local rural school while helping on the family farm and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and David Schmidt were married April 5, 1941 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home on a farm SE of Tappen, later South of Streeter, ND. In 1944 they moved to a farm South of Medina until 1953 when they moved into Steele. In 1955 they returned to the farm where they resided until 1977 when they moved into Jamestown, ND. She worked at Jamestown College as a food server in 1971 and retired in 1989. Following the death of her husband in July of 2005 she has continued to reside in Jamestown. She entered the Ave Maria Village in May of 2009.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Medina and later joined the Evangelical Church in Jamestown. She was passionate about gardening, quilting, and baking. She also loved her family very much.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Sharon (Mark) Christopher, Medina, MN; 1 son, Durwin (Gayle) Schmidt, Medina, ND; 5 grandchildren, Karna (Greg) Johnson; Eric (Jeanne) Christopher; Stephanie (Jerod) Hanson; Jeremy (Fiancé - Meredith Johnson) Schmidt; Jason Schmidt; 6 great grandchildren, Ellie and Taylor Crosby; and Calvin, Kamela and Ethan Hanson; Isabel Johnson; 1 brother, Melvin (Joyce) Rivinius, Fargo, ND; 3 sisters, Pauline Frey, Hastings, MN; Olga Buck, Fargo, ND; Irene Opp, Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 brother and 4 sisters.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday July 28, 2009 in the United Methodist Church in Medina, ND with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann, officiating and Chaplain Tom Geffre, assisting.

The interment will be made in the Medina Cemetery in Medina, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:00 pm Monday @ the funeral home

Visitation: 9:00 am - 8:00 pm Monday @ the funeral home
